Cisco # BDP-S5500 Contour receiver

I have had Cox service for over 11 years.  It had never failed until last December when I supposedly "upgraded" to "Gigablast" service.  I now have a situation where service  on my Contour box freezes or loses one or more channels.  I then have to reset the entire system to get them back.  I have 5 TV's in my home.  None of the others have an HD/DVR box, and none have ever had a problem.  This now happens at least once every two weeks on my main TV and I'm becoming very disappointed with these constant failures.

Is this a situation with my Contour receiver, or a Cox system problem?  I already replaced my receiver at a Cox store some 4 or 5 months ago, yet the problem persists.  Why so often?  And, why only that one receiver?

Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Are random channels having issues or does it seem to be the same channels having issues when this happens?

  • Now that you ask, it seems as though there may be a few channels that are repeatedly involved, but not all at the same time.  But of course, like most people, we have a group of channels that we watch the most, so I'm not certainly not familiar with every channel, but there certainly are a number of "repeat offenders".

Thank you for helping me along with this problem with this problem.

  • It sounds like this may be signal related and will probably need to have a technician out to investigate. If you haven't already, please try to check the coaxial cable on both ends to make sure everything is tight. Otherwise please send us an email to Cox.Help@Cox.com and reference this thread so that we can help you setup a time for a technician to come out.
