Changing cable box

I recently had cox cable installed, I was ready surprised when I saw the cable boxes they installed. They were the ugliest boxes I have ever seen but I honestly could get past the ugly and very old look of the boxes. The problem is that they reboot all the time, some channels never work and channels I don't have appear on my channel list making it confusing to find out which channels I can look at. I have the Scientific Atlanta CSH824H. I've seen that many people have issues with these boxes, I was just wondering if cox does not have any other more updated box? When I log into my account above the model of my cable box appears another box image which is apparently the  Cisco 8742HDC. Can Cox provide that box?

Scientific Atlanta - CSH824H

  • I would exchange the box because of its constant reboots.  Do you have a Cox Service Center near you?  There should be a link to the right to Find Your Nearest Service Center.

No matter the box you get, I don't believe there's an option to remove the channels you don't have from your program guide.  Cox wouldn't be able to tempt you if you don't see more available channels.

Here's a list of all cable boxes:  http://www.cox.com/residential/support/tv/article.cox?articleId=f6644920-8b56-11df-6baf-000000000000  However, I don't see the Cisco 8742HDC.  Either that box is out-of-date or the web page is out-of-date.

Before you exchange your box, you have to determine what you want, such as a basic HD receiver, Contour or DVR service.  If you're unsure, the rep will sell you all the bells and whistles.

After you set your favorite channels, is there a Favorites button on the remote?  Meaning, if you press the Favorites button, only the favored channels will appear on a guide?  Verizon has that option.

I have the Rovi program.  Not much to play with.

Thank you :) I've already exchanged some of them but I'll try again.

With Rovi, go into the Menu, My Preferences, Skipped Channels. Put a check by the ones you don't get, don't watch, etc. Exit. Then go into the Guide, Sort, List Channels, Custom 1, Use Always, Exit.

The skipped ones won't show up in the guide. However, if you ever do a search, you have to do the sorting part again. Haven't been able to get around that. A hassle at first but muscle memory kicks in after a while and then you won't even notice you're doing it. And when Cox adds channels you won't watch that show up in the guide you have to check those off in the skips.

There is no Skipped Channels option on my Rovi.  I have the following options under My Preferences:

      - Favorite Channels
      - Power-On Channel
      - Aspect Ratio
      - Sidebar Color
      - Output Formats
      - Audio Level
      - Audio Digital Out
      - Clock Options
      - Power-On Button
      - Auto-Tune To HD (Doesn't work)

There is also no Sort option in my Guide...nor anything to customize.  The only option I have is to set favorite channels.

Do I have the wrong version of Rovi?  Is there a more gooder version available?

On your box you will select Favorites instead and select your channels you'd like to list as your favorites.

It wasn't a question to set favorite channels.  I have already set favorite channels.

Jerry provided a method to only see my favorite channels in the Rovi program guide.  His method included navigating to the Skipped Channel setting and checking the channels you don't want to see listed.

However, on my version of Rovi, there is no Skipped Channel setting or any customization option to sort channels.

Is there another version of Rovi I can't get?
