Cannot synch email to my Android phone

I had my email on my phone just fine until the switchover.  Now, I cannot get it onto my Galaxy 7 running Android Nougat.  It will not let me try to load it automatically, and when I input the port numbers and other information that Webmail says to enter to connect, it does not work.
