Cable modem disconnects every 3 to 5 minutes after installing new router

I just changed out my old Linksys router for a new Netgear R7000 router.  The install went great and I was connected easily to the internet and connected for all my WiFi units.  The problem is that after 3 to 5 minutes the cable modem disconnects.  It then goes through its steps to reconnect, usually taking a minute or two.  I am then connected to the internet for another 3 to 5 minutes when the modem disconnects once again.  I have the Cisco DPQ3212 cable modem from Cox.  Has anyone seen this problem before?

Double check your coax cable, it sounds like there is a loose connection somewhere that is triggering your modem to disconnect/reconnect - if you didn't have this problem before.  Disconnect all coax, check for bent copper wire or shmutz and reseat the connections.

When you lose the internet, do you know if you also lose or have your phone service effected? Also, when it cuts out, what is the status of netgear? See here for more info.

  • Hi Jon,

When this "disconnect" happens, do all of the lights on the Cisco DPQ3212 modem go out, as if the device is completely resetting itself?
