Audio Issue on recorded shows via contour 2

When I go to play a recorded show off certain networks, tv land and cmt are two I've noticed. The background music is loud and voice is low where u can't hear them speaking the dialogue. I have to rewind or back up the show multiple times before it goes back to normal. If u fast forward through the commercials on the recorded show the problem keeps repeating.

  • Hey ChadH1981,

Have you tried rebooting the cable box to see if this helps?

  • I have the same issue watching live sporting events. The background applause smothers the announcers. It's almost like the announcers volume decreases so the background can be heard. Another related problem is that the background sounds are coming out of the center channel instead of either the front or back speakers. I'm using Dolby Surround 5.1 through an Onkyo receiver. Rebooting the cable box does not work.

It sounds like the SAP is turned on. Please tune in to the channels that you're having the trouble with, one at a time. Once you've gone to that channel, hit the settings button on the remote control, then go to the Audio & Video settings, select Audio and make sure that the SAP is turned off. That should do it.

Rebooting the box doesn't make a difference as it is sporadic on these channels and it's only recorded shows from these channels that have the issue.

Hi, rebooting the box will most likely not resolve this sort of an issue. I'd make sure that the SAP is turned off. You can do that by going to the Audio & Video settings, select Audio and turn off the SAP.

  • Hi again StephanieS!

Thanks for the response. Although the navigation is different, I can say that SAP is off. The navigation I had to use was Contour button/select the sprocket/Device Settings/Audio/SAP is off. That screen also shows HDMI Audio Output = Auto Detect (Dolby Digital 5.1) and Digital Audio Output = Dolby Digital 5.1.

Hey there! You may want to go to the channels that you were having this trouble with. Sometimes the SAP can be turned on for specific channels. The next time that happens, please go and check to see of the SAP is turned off. That should resolve the problem. Please let me know if this issue continues.

I checked all of the channels in question. All have SAP set to off. The issue still exists.

Brain01 , Please also ensure that the SAP feature on your TV itself is turned off. You can also try unplugging your box from the power outlet for about 30 seconds and then back in. Please allow a few minutes for your box and the guide to completely reload. Let us know if this resolves your issue.
