Here is a sample of a 20 minute test to a blizzard server while playing overwatch.

95% packet loss to the specific IP.

Multiple calls to cox with no resolution. Not even an offer to change my route.

I was told that the department in charge of fixing my issue is unreachable by me as a paying customer and as well as the employees of cox not being able to contact this so called department about my problem.

Super frustrating that the phone representatives take us paying and knowledgeable customers as idiots and claim that there is nothing they can do to resolve an issue multiple people are having.

This is a last chance effort on my part to see if someone is smart enough to help me with this issue as I have been a loyal customer for several years.

    10.0.1.1 - 0 | 600 | 600 | 0 | 18 | 334 | 0 |

Is 10.0.1.1 your home network? If so, why is it taking 18-334ms to reach your router?

Also, I don't see any actual packet loss. Looks like typical congestion between Level3 and Blizzard's ISP.

  • yes the first two IP addresses are my modem and router.

I am not sure why its taking 18-334 but I thought I had a legitimate packet loss issue and the tech concurred last night when they came to my home and looked at my MTR test.

Do you think the rubberbanding and lag spikes and stutter in all my games is related to the home network because it shows that there is no packet loss for neither my modem nor my router.

    thank you.

  • here is a MTR test without my router connected while i play my game!

Your avg and worst ping times from the server look much better without the router.  Were you still having the problems while you were directly connected?

  • It did not seem as bad but i have reverted back to my old router as well to see if the problem still persists and it did.

so I couldn't put the blame solely on the new router I have been using. I had no problems using my old router for a very long time so why would the problem occur out of no where?

I am truly at a loss.

What model router do you have? Also, what model modem?

Try pinging or MTR the modem IP.  From CMD it is Ping -n 50 192.168.100.1

  • I Just recently switched to an apple airport (2nd gen) I believe.

The modem is the Motorola Arris SURFboard Modem 200 Series.

For what it's worth a 2nd gen Airport isn't going to cut it in terms of being able to support your subscribed speeds. I would say upgrade to a newer model although it looks as though Apple may be discontinuing the Airport line. It may be worth exploring other options with regards to routers.

Unless you have a Time Capsule, a Airport router is just a bottom shelf router with bad firmware that sells for more because of the Apple brand. The newer AC models are a bit better but still no where near the performance of other kinds of routers. Look into Asus and Netgear. There are lots of Black Fridays deals starting tomorrow.
