2 months of disconnects and slow speeds

I have an Arris SB6141. For a couple months now I have gotten slow speeds and and disconnects randomly anytime day or night. Had a tech out, messed with some stuff, still no changes. Tonight I have had 8-10 disconnects and speeds ranging $Mbps, 1Mbps, 22Mbps. Does my modem need a firmware update? Could it be the coax?
