That's me, along with all the other premium channels I pay for, plus internet. HBO Max is even listed on my bill. I hope I am not being charged for it, because a cost is not itemized next to where it shows HBO Max. I hear that it is free if we have HBO. Anyway, I'm trying to launch the app. When I go to HBO Max on my Sony Bravia 4K TV, it asks "Already an HBO/HBO Max Subscriber? - click to launch app." When I click launch app, I then see ""If you get HBO through Cox Subscriber, , sign in through TV or mobile provider in Sign In Screen (below) and then choose Cox as my provider and sign in with Primary Cox ID." But when I click on Sign In, there is no Cox provider to choose and thus, no Cox sign in. When I click on Sign In, it just provides a code and states to go HBO Max.com/sign in and type in the code. I am stopping before doing that on my computer because I don't understand how to get to the place where I choose Cox Provider.and sign in with my Cox user name and password. I know this must be simple and I'm complicating it. I'm just confused. Please help me through this process. I have two Smart 4K TVs and a third oldie not so smart. You Tube Video(s) Fail I have a Sony Bravia Smart TV. With my Cox Contour2 Remote, I access You Tube daily and view its videos. This has been perfect until today. I can still access the You Tube app either by clicking on the app or using voice control on my remote. I can still see all the offered videos, but when I click on them, they won't come up. I just get a black screen and at bottom right it shows 0:0 for minutes. I had to access You Tube through my Sony Bravia Smart TV remote. It works fine that way, but I prefer using my Cox Remote, as I always have until today, and wonder why You Tube video access suddenly stopped using the Contour Remote. I rebooted I cleared You Tube history. No luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. "No Signal Message" on TV During Turn-On One of my TVs, upon turn on, has started showing a message on the screen in a turquoise background: "HDMI 1" No Signal--retighten cables..."I notice that during this message the set box light remains solid. Usually in about 10 seconds my TV programs come on. Or, I turn the TV off and on and programs come on. Cables are tight As a side note, I recognize that same "No Signal Message" when reboots or upgrades begin on my TVs. The TV reboots always start with the "no signal" message and the DVR-cable box and set boxes blink until that message goes away and the reboot continues. But back to this issue, I don't understand why one of my HDTV's---a one year old great playiing Sony---has started to come on with the "No Signal" message. Has that happened on any of your TVs, and if so, what's the cause and how did you fix it? Thanks for putting up with this long message. Re: Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies Kevin - one more thing to show I'm not crazy....this morning two friends of mine were at my home for breakfast, and they still have their Cox Scientific Atlantas. They did not receive that letter requesting them to switch to Contour. But I showed them in depth the great features of Contour, but also what my SD shows now look like, and they did not like what they saw. My friend Frank couldn't believe it and he tried to readjust the settings for me, but it didn't work. As for them, they are in shock by the change and relieved they didn't upgrade to Contour. They have great viewing reception, they love HD, but watch lots of SD shows, especially MTV videos, etc. and won't give up the full screens and clarity. Anyway, I'm willing to say I'm exaggerating, and I have friends that would tell me so! But I'm not and it's not good. Re: Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies Hi Kevin - Thanks for your response. When I got my letter from Cox stating that it was time to upgrade to Contour by June 4 or else I could lose channels, I upgraded. Do I have any options to consider besides Contour? Or, is Cox only supporting Contours now and not keeping a stock of Rovi type boxes? Do Cox techs still support Rovi-type boxes? If not, I get it. What would be the point of having a Scientiic Atlanta and if it dies, never having any more in stock to replace it. I welcome change and love Contour's features, but in this case change has caused me to not watch many of the shows I loved before. But I'm still paying for them. If there are any alternatives, let me know and I'll happily call Cox. If not, I'll look for my own options. I've tried every setting change on my TV and Contour remotes and even the great tech who came yesterday did the same for me. He checked things outside and my signals are great. I showed hm some current shows, and ones I had recorded so he could see how they looked on my HDTV screen(s). He understood what I was seeing, but he said with Contour there's nothing that can be done. I'm sure you are thinking I'm being too picky. I'm not. I don't expect SD to look like HD, but on my Scientific Atlantas those shows were clear and proportioned. Your explanation makes sense of why this happened--Cox changed all settings to HD. I guess that didn't effect "Rovi boxes." But on Contour, SD didn't transfer well to HD. That's why I can turn on TMC and watch the host in full HD, but when the SD TMC movies comes on, they are square with bars on either side. And it is not limited to TMC. With Contour even a few SD shows in full screen are blurry. I was watching a CNN documentary on John McCain hosted by Wolf Blitzer. He was amazingly clear in HD, but when they played old videos of McCain over the years, those old videos played "full screen" but were very blurry. They are old videos, I know. But they are more distorted and blurry with Contour than when I had my Scientific Atlanta. I've had Cox for decades and I've appreciated the evolution of technology. Contour has great features, but when I was paying for two Scientific Atlanta DVR's- the reception was amazing. I'd love to go back two weeks ago and never had made that upgrade appointment! Any options? If not, I promise to shut up about this. Re: Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies Becky. I am so sorry for this long response. I understand your reply. Not all shows are equal. But I don't understand why changing to a new DVR/cable box distorts my TV viewing. I've been with Cox for decades, so I've had cable boxes changed out or upgraded when one wore out, or if I moved to a new home and the replacement was an upgrade. But they've lasted a long time. What I lack in technical expertise I make up for in familiarity of my televisions and how they work with equipment. I know what I see on the TV screen every day. I am also good at learning all aspects of cable box and television settings. I try to do self-help before asking for help--and I'm the first person to admit to an "operator error." However, I have watched Turner Classics and a myriad of older shows that span the years, and they were never so cropped, or framed in thick in black bands, or this distorted. Before Contour, I could even put those kind of shows on zoom (not stretch) from the remote and it gave me a full balanced picture--whether it was TMC, or The Twilight Zone, or Alfred Hitchcock, or old game shows. I'm not saying they were HD quality, but really, really clear. But when my Scientific Atlantas were "upgraded" to Contour2, in one fell swoop I got distorted picture quality. In other words, the picture display looked one way the day before Contour, and a distorted way after Contour. Also, the majority of my "square screen" shows are blurry--like on old game shows. They are crazy-blurry--not typical. Having said that, I think the tech did his installation job okay. I might add one thing to my bad cowboy song: on my "better" HD channels, where the picture has good color and is landscaped, the picture displays as "zoomed in," so I can be watching a true HD new show and the view is somewhat larger than it was before Contour. I had taped the Billboard Music Awards, and I saw the zoomed-in effect when I played it back. So I get it both ways. If there is a close-up of two people, the top of their hair is cropped off. Their heads look zoomed in. Whether it is the older shows or the new ones, they are defaulting to a distorted view that I never had before. I have tried every way possible to adjust the Contour settings and the LG settings on my TV, to no avail. This may be the new-normal, but something has been changed or skewed. I have an appointment tomorrow with a Cox tech and I requested an in-house tech. I want the tech to see what I'm talking about and determine if it's fixable or if I'm stuck with the views. If that's the reality, okay. Honestly, I love Cox, but I'm frustrated and sad about the changes, so I will exhaust every form of troubleshooting before I would leave Cox. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Re: Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies Thanks, Bruce. I am watching TCM/HD and in my location it is Channel 1040. There is a Ray Milland movie on and the baby in the crib has part of the crib's right side cropped out because of the very square display view. I understand there are many SD channels like the old TV game shows. With those, they were not as great as HD, but I used to be able to enlarge them too with my Scientific Atlanta remote, and no matter what, they were not as blurry as they are now that I've entered Contour land. Thanks again for your suggestion. Re: Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies Thanks for responding to me. I've done everything you said, Becky. I think I've tried everything. I've spent two days changing the TV video output resolution/aspect ratio on my LG and also everything I could change under Settings on my Contour remote. Are you saying you get TCM full screen? Maybe I've missed something but I've been very obsessed looking! Contour2 Distorted Display of older TV shows, like Turner Classic Movies With Contour2 does anyone notice and dislike the TV display when viewing classic shows---for example, the Turner Movie Channel or Twilight Zone? In days long ago, most non-HD shows played poorly on an HDTV. Then it got a whole lot better. For me with my previous Cox cable boxes most older movies or classic shows filled the screen because you often had the choice of accessing some by their HD or non-HD channel - or even if they didn't fill the screen, you could press a button on the remote and make it "zoom" or "stretch" or "normal." Zoom did not give you a "bigger image vertically" or distort the view. It just filled the screen in landscape mode and with no distortion. I have many of those channels now where the display is like a huge square from top to bottom, and blackout columns on either side--in other words you can't make it go landscape. As such, you lose quite a bit of the screen shot horizontally and often the picture is distorted or blurry. Even when the picture is clear, it is chopped off. I've tried changing resolutions on my TV and Contour remotes, but no luck. Just asking if you had this problem and figured out a cure. I'm such a lover of old shows, this is close to a show-stopper for me and the opposite of an "upgrade." Seeing a bigger square version of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland on the screen with one of his arms chopped off by the big square "view" is annoying!!! SolvedScientific Atlanta Discontinuation? Hi Cox Forum! So sorry for this long email. Is it true that Scientific Atlanta cable boxes are being phased out? I love them , especially because I have bad eyesight, so I prefer the larger view of the Cox guides and banners on the Scientific Atlanta, and all font views when navigating the screen choices. Also, the Scientific Atlantas meet my needs completely. My daughter had a Contour for a while, but she hated it--me too-and it was eventually replaced with a Scientifc Atlanta, so I have some knowledge of using them and reviewing them. I learned and used the Contour features just fine so that wasn't the issue. In my home I have one new-ish Scientific Atlanta DVR that works great (bedroom). I have a 2nd older one one in my family room that is on borrowed time- its "hard drive" is about gone but it gives me cable connectivity for now-- I just can't use the DVR function anymore. The reason I am holding on to it is because of a Cox contractor tech who came to my home to look at it. This is what he said: he cannot replace my dying Scientific Atlanta DVR with a new or refurbished Scientific Atlanta DVR. He said Cox is phasing them out and replacing all of them with Contours. I do not like the Contour. I love my Scientific Atlanta HD DVRs, especially my good one in the bedroom. So this tech said I could NOT get a Scientific Atlanta from Cox--period--and he could only replace my dying Scientiic Atlanta with a Contour DVR. More frustrating, he said once he installs a Contour in one room, he must remove my good Scientific Atlanta in the other room and also install Contour. In other words, all Cox HD DVR cable boxes must be the same now--and that means switching to Contour. We can no longer have a Scientiic Atlanta in one room, and a Contour in the other. That means I would lose my good Scientific Atlanta and be forced to switch to Contour. Is that true? I have a friend who has Cox and she actually has Contour in one room and a Scientific Atlanta in another---so that confuses me. What I want to do is simple--go to a Cox store, bring them my dying Scientific Atlanta HD DVR and get a replacement Scientific Atlanta HD DVR--new or refurbished. But according to the Cox contractor tech, that won't happen and they won't even service Scientific Atlantas that have an issue. The tech told me my only other option is just using a mini box, but no, I want HDTV DVR cable and ultimate channels in the rooms where we watch TV the most. I already have a min box which is fine for a spare room. So I apologize for this crazy long email, but the bottom line questions are: (1) Are they phasing out Scientific Atlantas, and (2) if a Contour has to be installed in one room, do I have to replace the good Scientific Atlanta in my other room also with a Contour?
