Either way, they do Cox a disservice with their attitude. We've been Cox customers for over 10 years and are quite happy at this time just using Cox for internet and getting better deals for tv through others currently. But lately there seems to be a barrage of calls trying to get internet only customers to expand to the cox voip service. Like I've told others and told this caller, I'm frankly not interested in voip at all. We live in an area that's prone to hurricanes and subsequent power outages associated with them. It makes far more sense for people like ourselves to stick with the old-fashioned 2 wire ATT wired phones for the simple reason that after a major storm, phone service is prioritized in order to get service restored to hospitals, doctors, etc. and takes precedence over tv/internet cabling. And I don't need power to call out. To give examples, after Katrina it took 18 days for Cox internet/tv to be restored whereas phone service was up and running for us within 3 days. Electricity took 16. After Gustav it took 16 days for tv/internet, 12 days for electricity and 2 days for phone service. I attempted to explain this to the employee/telemarketer who just would not take no for an answer despite me telling him 3 times that there I had no intention of switching. In fact he became combative and started arguing that the back-up battery provides 5 hours of power thus negating any power outage issues. Even ignoring the 5 hours backup versus days power outage issue, what good would a backup battery do me when the cabling providing the service is historically the last to be restored? To be honest I'm at the point that I'm looking for other internet providers simply because I'm tired of the constant rude telemarketers calling on Cox behalf. Allowing customers to check a box opting out of all calls from Cox and/or their agents for sales purposes would be a good idea at this point if you want to keep customers happy. SolvedRe: Email Outage Update 9 a.m. December 16 Paranoia, some kind of services industry you must run where you tell people that they should be using something else other than what is provided for as part of the terms. Plus did it ever occur to you that most are not so much worried about the loss of a few Nigerian scam emails but far more concerned about the fact that IF the email database has been compromised in any way that their personal and financial information is out there seeing as you HAVE to have a cox email address to manage your account. System status? There used to be a link to checking to see if either any maintenance was planned or any current problems were known on the cox system. Has this been removed? I used to find it helpful to troubleshoot to see if the connectivity problem was my side with equipment or whether it was a system issue.
