In the steps I take, I have already backed up the video to the beginning of the show, so when I press record, I am watching the opening of the show I wish to record. So I know the first 15 minutes (in my example) are on the HD. Regards John Contour 2 won't record from the beginning of a show I have Cox Contour 2 (XG1-A) and am frustrated by the inability to record a partially watched show from the beginning. Scenero: I started watching a show from the beginning of the show, Some time into the show, say 15 minutes, I decide to record it. I backup to the beginning and press record. The recording starts at the 15 minute point and records to the end. Why is this? The beginning of the show is obviously still on the hard drive.:( Contour 2 DVR Fast Forward acting odd Our COX Contour 2 DVR (main box) recently has some odd behavoir during fast forward. Watching a show that has been paused, sometimes when we fast forward the time marker moves to the end then back to where we were fast forwarding from. This has only started to happen. Has there been a change? Is there a new option we don't know about? Another strange behavior: while playing a recording, if we pickup the remote, sometimes the playing position jumps approx 10 to 15 minutes ahead. Unfortunately we are not sure what button was pressed when we grabbed the remote. Is there an jump ahead 10 minute option? Thanks JohnRob Contour 2 are all 6 tuners being recorded? We just changed from Contour (Cisco box) to Contour 2 (ARRIS box). On the Cisco box, all 6 tuners were spooled to the hard drive and you could switch to any one of them and backup either 1 hour or to when that tuner was put on that channel. The Contour 2 (ARRIS) seems to only spool the current select channel. Switching to one of the other 5 tuners will not allow you to backup to before you changed to than tuner (channel). Am I missing something? JohnRob Re: Pause time on Contour 2 Client Box No, the host is fine. I performed another test today and found the Client box will only pause for 25 minutes and is not affected by how long the unit has been playing as suggested in the original post. Test: Client box powered off Power up and change channel wait 30 minutes pause Result: Pause stops at 25 minutes and plays the delayed programming. Cannot pause in this condition but can FastForward (for 25 minutest worth of programming. JohnRob why am I receiving spam from this site? I recently posted some question regarding dimming / pause etc on the Cox Contour 2 box. For each post I received an SPAM email fromv "TV Forum - Automated Email <cox-notification@coxforums.com>" linking to a youtube on a streaming media box. I do not wish to receive even more spam, Cox, can you block these eMails? JohnRob Re: Block Calls Using the Cox Phone Tools Web Site I've had Cox phone for years and have excellent service. While not Cox's problem we get a lot of robocalls. I've asked Cox to implement something like Nomorobo. However I understand the FCC will currently not allow the phone company to block calls. I can see why this law was originally created. I've looked into the Cox phone blocking tools and find it not helpful in our situation. Due to the ability for companies to spoof caller ID numbers, the phone numbers used and random and not predictable. Some calls show our home number on the caller id display! My solution was to purchase a truCall device from a company in the UK. We purchased it about 2 years ago and have no robocalls since (well maybe a couple). The box is given a list of phone numbers you want to let through (friends etc). These numbers go through to the phone. For call numbers not on the list a voice comes on saying "we are screening calls and please press number 3 to go though" (or something like that). I believe the number changes periodically but not sure. The result is no robocalls enter the number so are hung up on (without ringing the phone). Yet calls from say your doctor can still go through without an issue. There are many other options but this is how I've set ours up. Its a little costly and needs to be located when it can intercept all the phones you want to screen but we found it to be very much worth the cost. I'm a little hesitant to post this message as if this product became very very popular the robocall robots would be programmed to circumvent such a device and I wouldn't like that. However if someone really want to block the annoying robocalls it is great. JohnRob Re: Does anyone agree that Cox is the WORST cable TV provider in the world HI, I'm short of your 33 years with only 27. My experience has been much different than yours. I have phone / internet / TV with Cox almost from the beginning. I can count on one hand the amount of times we've had issues with any of the services. One of my TV's has a mini box which brings in the channels but cannot record. I've never had an issue with it and it's only $2 a month. We are in the NorthEast. My friends tell me tales of issue after issue with their non-Cox services making me happy I have Cox. I don't work for Cox nor have any connection to their company (except being a subscriber). I'm only in this forum because we just updated to Contour 2 and I'm looking to learn all I can about the service. JohnRob Re: Does anyone agree that Cox is the WORST cable TV provider in the world Power ON/OFF recommendations for ARRIS and Pace boxes I Just had Controur 2 installed and am very happy with it. My question is the mfg recommendation for powering down the boxes. In the default configuration it seems both boxes stay on 100% of the time. I know some devices do better if allowed to run all the time. Others benefit from stopping periodically. Not considering the power savings, what is the best configuration for the hardware? Thanks John
