Cutting the cord is exactly why cable companies are now charging overages for internet. Re: DATA USAGE Games nowadays easily increase caps. Most games are 75+GB for just the game let alone patches and add ons. Streaming Video on Youtube and Netflix/Amazon increase it fast as well. Suggest getting a router that can see how much each device uses or old fasion way of not letting son have internet for a month and see if it goes down. Re: Cox service is making me lose my hair!!! That **. I had issues with cox last year and it took 4 months for the company to finally get the fix. They tried all the normal drop replacements, wire going into the house, tried blaming the modem (bran new top of the line), plant work, pole work.. They went to all the neighbors and everyone said they just thought the issue was cox and unplug their modems every night. I mentioned to them when it started APS had been out in the neighborhood doing maintenance on a transformer. After 4 months they finally replaced the amplifier on the pole (even though it looked fine) and 0 issues since. Hang in and work as much as you can by calling in and asking for supervisors and making sure to state you want only the cox people not the contractors. After all said and done, I called into billing and got 4 months credit. Re: Internet Keeps dropping This happened to me for about 5 months. About 21 tech visits later they replaced an amplifier on a pole (even though they said it looks good) and has not dropped one time since. Keep on the techs until they find out the problem. Re: 3rd time in two days my Cox down due to outages. The problem with the it takes a few calls to trigger an outage is that in the meantime the first few people who call get told go buy a new $180 modem...Cox should reimburse people who have to buy new modems when a tech says so only to find out later WHEN ACTIVATING THE MODEM that an outage exists. Re: Data Usage jump from 400GB to 1500GB in two months, and no change to our usage Netflix uses a lot up especially if you leave it on auto. If you have a 4k tv consider it easily double-four times as much as regular 1080p movies/tv. If you have xbox or playstation a lot of updates to games are now 50+ GB each. Also, watch out for the new tv through internet packages like Youtube TV, playstation vue, dish sling as they will use up your internet as well. If you want to really test, turn off your router and just leave the cable modem on. If it shows 0 used then it is correct, if it shows more then you know it is a lie. Re: Caps and Speed Tiers They did quite a bit of testing before rollout and found issues during test and "fixed them". But all the numbers I used to get from them was just about right on with what the router says. Internet is just getting eaten up faster and faster nowadays as more devices/IOT are introduced into households. Console games are getting larger and larger each time and streaming has gone up. For all the people who encouraged people to "cut the cord" this is the result. Cox does not care and believes 1TB is fine. Before they raised it to 1TB they had it at 300-400GB and said only 1% of the people went over... Now a lot of familys are hitting the limit due to streaming so Cox decided to make more money off "cord cutters". If you use the bandwidth you are paying for it now, if you do not want to worry pay the $50 for true "unlimited" and enjoy it. Re: Introducing Cox Gigablast That is why the option exists to pay for the amount overage or to upgrade to true "unlimited" for an extra $50. If you have a family of four people and use a lot more bandwidth up, it makes sense to charge extra to said family versus the single person household.
