I only specify afternoons cause I like to sleep in. All I ask is that they are actual Cox technicians and not contractors. I see this area crawling with third-party cable contractors and one guy parks his cable van right across from us a lot. No thanks. I'd rather it be an actual Cox person to see what's going on and why the connection goes out for a few days, then is fine for a long while. Re: ** internet, may have found problem Well, whatever you guys did yesterday (Friday), it's back to normal and working as good as it's ever been. Last night everything was rock solid perfect. I mean, just look at it right now. https://www.speedtest.net/result/8630835578 That's what I don't get. If it's a bad wire, wouldn't it be bad all of the time?? Re: ** internet, may have found problem Just ran another speed test. You can see that our download speed is currently fine. But our upload speed is SH*T. We're not getting anywhere close to what we are paying for. And since this only affects the upload speed, are you absolutely sure it is a wiring problem that you keep trying to make me buy??? https://www.speedtest.net/result/8625180048 https://www.speedtest.net/result/8625180048 Re: ** internet, may have found problem A couple of things I have noticed that might be causing trouble. You have me listed as having an RGI 6400 when I have an SBG 6400 modem. Also, you are showing the wrong MAC address for my modem. Re: ** internet, may have found problem And while I'm thinking about it, is there anything else I can do on my end to rule out something that may not be expected as the problem? Basically, is there something within Windows 10 that I can look at and rule out that my onboard network card is not the problem, or that something else between the keyboard and the modem is the problem?? I have monitor stuff that i can watch data go back and forth and know about how to see connections and all of that. But I don't see anything suspicious. Only odd thing I would say is that sometimes when my computer goes into sleep mode and then I later wake it up, sometime it only connects with the modem at 100 instead of 1000, so I sometimes have to manually unplug and replug the cable to get it back to 1000 like it should be. But other than that, everything that I can see appears to be working fine. But I admit, I'm probably not the foremost Windows or networking expert around in terms of the actual innards of everything going on. Re: ** internet, may have found problem Ok, I have an update, looks like it was around 17 days since I last had trouble. Night of September 24th and up through right now the Internet has been acting up again, primarily the Upload side of it. The download I can still get decent speed and it's still staying around 100 or a bit over, up in 120s. But upload speed is anywhere from 0 to 6 instead of the 10+ it normally had been. Right now it just tested 132 down, 5 up. I noticed when trying to do social media, uploading a picture to Facebook, or trying to send a screenshot to my girlfriend in chat, there would be delays and sometimes it would require more than one try to get it to send. I also noticed the Internet acting up, suddenly pages started loading slower. Facebook seeming to not respond. My girlfriend told me streams had been buffering when she'd try to watch a movie. Sometimes lose connection in her online video game. As I said, that started up again on the evening of the 24th. So whatever has been happening, happened again. Have you guys done any work in the area or turned on/off service for our other neighbors who share the same hookup box?? I know we had a small windows update thing and had to reboot computer for that, but that was on Monday and I didn't notice any ill effects from that. I'm gonna post some screenshots here of my OBS Studio software so that you can understand what I mean when I'm talking about the upload side and as it relates to streaming, which I sometimes do stream to Facebook Live for fun, say a gaming session or something like that with friends. In the screenshots you'll see the GUI of the software, two video windows, on right is what is being broadcast and the left side is what is on standby with some transition and effects buttons in between so that you can do television style video transitions, etc. Lower half of right, primarily the bottom-most portion in bottom right you'll see a display of information and an indicator for the streaming conditions. You'll see what I mean by the Dropped Frames being reported (packet loss) and also how much load is on the computer/processor along with a color-coded indicator that gets darker towards red the worse the conditions are, I think it goes from Red, Orange, Yellow, Green for conditions from worst to best. To right of that you'll see an actual speed readout. I have the software set to a bitrate of 3000 or 3 Mbps, and so you'll see that often it's not even close to maintaining that speed. There's always going to be some variation, as I'm sure you know, even with perfect conditions so it might show 2900-3200 instead of a rock solid 3000. Anyways, the screenshots tell you what's going on with the connection. Re: ** internet, may have found problem Whatever you did just then, it's working! At this moment our internet is MUCH better! Not only getting the 10mb upload speed now, but also a stream test so far shows that there's not even a single dropped frame! That's a big change from the past couple days of 95-97% frame drops and equivalent packet loss when trying to upload something or stream. Re: ** internet, may have found problem I realize it's been many years since I was in the military and training to be a ground radio repair technician and working with transmitters, receivers and wiring just like this cable wiring, and that I've been out of the loop for a long time on current advancements... But back in my day you didn't have to pull wiring to know if a run of wiring was bad. You'd just take an analog multimeter and do things like ohms testing while also putting a signal through there to read amps and voltage and even frequency. We even had caps to place on one end of a long wiring run so that you didn't need 500 yard long leads on your multimeter, it would create a feedback loop for various tests and you'd know in a few seconds if a long run of cable was bad and needing to be replaced. Anyways, just trying to think of things that might can help y'all out. Re: ** internet, may have found problem Done, but nothing has been happening to resolve the situation. I took a photo of the only thing in the apartment that you guys can even get to. https://i.imgur.com/UwF7dfu.jpg As you can see, cable on the left part of the outlet is that which comes into the apartment. The cable on the right side of the outlet is inside the apartment, is about 3 feet long and connects to the modem that is out of view. How much time do you guys need to arrange to have this cable disconnected? Took me all of 30 seconds to get the wall outlet off. I can't see where disconnecting that cable could take any longer than that. Can be done anytime as I'm retired and usually here 24/7 unless I have a doctor's appointment or running an errand. There is a second outlet in the bedroom exactly like this, currently not being used because we've never gotten a signal on it. But may try again just in case something got changed somewhere. But anyways, if y'all need any more of my help in getting this issued resolved then just let me know. Re: ** internet, may have found problem Also, looking at modem, power levels and snr are all looking fantastic as far as what I can see from my end. But that's not the case when I try to upload something to Facebook, or try to do a Facebook Live stream, lol. A picture can take up to a minute to transfer, oftentimes stuttering along and I can see the progress bar actually go backwards before going back forwards, lost data packets having to be resent?? Speed tests show download is fast enough to do most things without much trouble, but the upload speed is absolutely horrible and literally non-existent, which shows up most of the time when I'm gaming (induces lag because the server is waiting on me to communicate with it) or when I'm doing media stuff like uploading pictures to Facebook or maybe do a Facebook Live once in a while. Just ran a test, 86 down, but only 0,.88 up speed. https://www.speedtest.net/result/8565845168 Can also show a screenshot of my modem's power levels, https://imgur.com/7sW0X8P
