ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working No manufactured date on my SB6183, and the LED lights are blue & green. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working **UPDATE**: I finally received my replacement cable modem, an ARRIS SB6190, and am now receiving my correct Internet speed of 150 Mbps. I still have no idea why my old SB6183 was connecting to my computer and my router at only 100 Mbps, because the specs are clear that it is supposed to contain a Gigabit LAN port. In any event, with a lighter wallet and a faster connection, I sign off from this forum and thank everyone who tried to help. Good luck with your future issues! **END of UPDATE** Well, after much experimentation, I have isolated my problem to the cable modem itself, my ARRIS SB6183. Even though it supposedly carries specs saying it has an internal Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, I cannot force it to connect to anything faster than 100 Mbps. I used 5 different Ethernet cables, 3 different computers, removed the router from the chain, and even tried disconnecting Cox's cable from the back of the modem, and it stubbornly insists on connecting to anything and everything at no more than 100 Mbps. All I can conclude is that either the specs are wrong, and that the modem does NOT contain a Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, or that it is defective, and is downgrading itself to a 100 Mbps connection to compensate for an internal malfunction. Either way, the only remaining step is to try another cable modem, which I do not have at this time. If I take that step, I will report back with an update. I might just surrender and live with it. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working All of my connections are using brand new Cat 6 Ethernet cables. If you have read my other comments, my router easily connects to my computer at 1.0 Gbps, but when I remove the router from the chain, the modem connects with the Gigabit Ethernet Adapter on my computer at only 100 Mbps. I have verified that my SB6183 has a Gigabit Ethernet Port, but I suspect that Cox is somehow throttling the connection through the cable modem through some kind of firmware override. I have used several different Cat 6 Ethernet cables and several different computers to verify that the problem comes from the modem, not my cables, my router, nor my computers. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working Thanks for sharing. I know this not just my problem anymore. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working We have the same cable modem, and mine is establishing only a 100 Mbps connection with my desktop computer when I remove my router from the chain, despite the fact that the modem contains a Gigabit Ethernet Port, and my computer has a Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. I suspect that Cox has a way to limit the Ethernet connection speed of the modem in order to enforce the speed limits imposed by our service level, and has failed to adjust it to accommodate the so-called "speed boost." I know they can override the default settings of my cable modem, because they long ago removed my ability to reboot the modem using the configuration settings under the modem's internal web page, so I'm guessing they can throttle its Ethernet connection speed as well. Perhaps this will be resolved in time, but in the meantime, I'll continue tweaking things and see what happens. Thanks for responding. At least I know I'm not alone. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working It appears that I misunderstood the mechanism for receiving "notifications" about replies. I thought I would receive email messages, but it appears the notifications actually appear only at the top of this web page. I will check back regularly from this point forward. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working Yes, I did, and the same problem persisted. However, by removing the router from the connection I discovered that the cable modem was limiting the connection speed from the modem to the router. I think there might be a glitch with the speed upgrade process from Cox. We shall see. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working Per the suggestion above, I removed the router from the equation and directly connected my computer to the modem via my Gigabit Ethernet adapter, and now the LAN connection is showing a 100 Mbps connection instead of the 1.0 Gbps connection it was showing to the router. That means the cable modem is limiting the connection speed instead of my router. Then, I tried to reset my cable modem via the Cox website process and received a notification that there is a known "service outage" in my area scheduled to be resolved later today. I am wondering whether this indicates that the problem has always been on the provider end of the process. Does Cox limit the Ethernet connection speed of the modem to my computer and/or my router to enforce the "speed limit" based on the service level purchased? If so, that might explain why I am receiving the "service outage" notice because someone is trying to belatedly complete the speed boost process. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working Hello. All of my Ethernet cables, including the one from the modem to the router, are brand new Cat 6. Re: Recently Announced Internet Speed "Boost" Not Working If you're referring to the Ethernet cables, all of them are brand new, Cat 6.
