ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Bruce, Your comment about IR versus RF made me remember what the guy at the store said; RF is better, but not all of the early Contour 2 remotes were RF. I wonder what is up with the Cisco unit as well, would seem a simple software/firmware update but I'm not a programmer. The Cisco unit also ran much warmer than the Arris unit I have now. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Bruce I did try Cox support chat to ask about software/firmware version. That particular person was not able to provide that info so off to my local Cox retailer I went. I noticed that the Contour boxes on display in the store differed from the one that was installed by a third party installer a few weeks ago. My original box was made by Cisco and the ones being handed out by the store are made by Arris. I spoke with the same person who originally setup my account, Ben is great to work with and acknowledged that some earlier version of the Contour 2 boxes had a couple of issues such as what I'm experiencing. He also noted that the remote differed in functionality, something about IR versus RF but I'm not sure. Long story short, Ben hooked my up with a new Arris Contour box, I went through the easy setup and connection (I like the DVR sync feature) and this morning all is good; my preferences remained intact. Thanks to all that helped and I hope this experience helps others. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings ALC583 Overall, I'm please with the new contour setup after being a FIOS customer for the last 9 years. I like the guide interface as well as the voice command capability. I'm pretty sure a fix is available for this problem. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Bruce The Comcast thread is the one I was referring to and to be honest, I didn't realize it was 2 years old. I did notice that the Contour 2 box is made by Cisco. I guess one could argue the difference in quality between 720p and 1080p (when receiving a signal in that format). For the size of our TV (46) and the size of the room (fairly small) there is a noticeable difference. I admit, it could be subjective when discussing in a forum. We previously had Cox service that was turned off almost 10 year ago and the line has been sitting dormant since. The installation tech that installed our gear a few weeks ago was great and accomplished a line quality test that showed some degradation, possibly due to moisture. A line tech came out after Christmas and ran a new line from the nearest junction box to the house, since conduit was already there, it was a quick and easy replacement. I have turned Anynet+ off on the TV. This had no effect on the preferences changing overnight. I did disconnect the optical and HDMI cables going to the Contour box coming from the TV and audio before going to bed last night. This morning I plugged them back in and my audio and resolutions settings still reverted overnight. That seems to tell me the TV and audio receiver are not the culprits. I can turn all three devices (Contour/TV/Audio) off and on multiple times during the day/evening and the preferences remain as I selected. I did take note of the following info from our Contour box: Release Version - xappl-XRE.81P5 XRE Server Version - 1.81.05 11/28/2017 XRE Protocol Version - 2.8.0 Receiver - Native Version: 2.14.0 STB Version - CS011AN_2.14p3s1_PROD_sey Not sure if one of those is referring to a firmware version or not. I did quick search online but was unsuccessful in trying to see what the latest versions of software/firmware are for Cox Contour 2. Guess I will be making a call as you suggest to ensure I'm running the latest version(s). Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Bruce, Thanks for the information yesterday, I learned some things about HDMI and also found menus on my TV I didn't know existed. I did turn off the Samsung Anynet+ function (it was on). I always have had the Samsung internal speakers turned off. Got up this morning and the system still reverts to 720p and 2 channel (stereo)audio. 1080i is one of the options I can selectfrom the contour box. Will try that. I think I'm also going to try disconnecting the optical and HDMIinputs going to thecontour box and see what happens over night. You would think contour would just remember my preferences and the TV/audio wouldpump out whatever format the programing is broadcasted in, that's how things worked prior to switching from Verizon. I mentioned earlier that I found instances of other people having a similar issue as mine (with the new contour 2 box) and replacing the box was the fix, but I certainly don't mind going through some troubleshooting steps. As always, greatly appreciate the assistance. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Stephanie, Not sure how to tell what version HDMI I'm using? To be honest I didn't realize there is a choice? Never had a problem with this TV and audio receiver when they were connected to FIOS (I've recently switched back to Cox after almost 10 years with Verizon). The audio receiver is set to receive/detect various Dolby capabilities depending on how a program is broadcasted. The output of the receiver is based on signal received and the receiver displays what format it is currently receiving. The TV is set for 1080p. I'm tempted to disconnect the TV and audioinputs going into the Contour cable box before goingto bedat night and see what happens to the preferences I selected. If I loose my preferences with the TV and audio receiver disconnected I could probably rule those items out as the cause of my problem. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Bruce, Perhaps, but I have not been able to find an HDMI-CEC or similar setting for my particular television. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Michaelj, Well, if true, that seems disappointing for two different reasons: 1 - The contour cable box must update every night (since my preferences never make it more than 24 hours) 2 - The contour cable boxes don't hold user preferences after updates and associated re-boot. Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Ok, my somewhat olderTV and Audio info : TV - Samsung model # UN46D6003SFZA (connected to Contour via HDMI) Audio - Sony surround amplifier model # STR-DE595 (connected to Contour via optical cable) My test this morning was on channel 1301 (HBOHD) I checkednumerous channels at lunch and theContour preferencesremained set at 1080p and Dolby 5.1 for each. I can provide a list of specific channels if this info is needed but that list would get long quickly. I do tend to view only HD channels. I did initiate a re-boot of the Contour box (actually, the re-boot was due to a lack of signal detected since a Cox employee was installing a new line between the house and the nearest junction point in my neighbors yard while I was home at lunch) and the Contour preferences reverted back to 760p and stereo. Not sure if that is normal for thesespreferencesto re-set during a re-boot or not, just thought I would add the info. Turning Contour/TV/Audio off and back on numerous times during the day or letting Contour go to sleep mode does not alter video and audio preferences of the Contour box. The only time it appears to revert is during overnight hours or if I manually re-boot the Contour box. Does Contour normally perform routine maintenance actions or re-boot itselfin the middleof the night? Re: Contour 2 resolution and audio settings Stephanie, I understand that the output will vary depending on how that particular show/movie or network is being broadcasted. The problem I'm having is with the video and audio settings/preferencesof the contour 2 box. But, for the sake of this discussion, I did check this morning before I went to work. As usual, my preferences had reverted to 720p and stereo. I tuned to many different channels and those preferences did not change. At the end I tuned to a premium channel (HBO) at 7:30 this morning and was watching a movie (Adventures of Narnia). Again, the preferences showed 720p and stereo. I then changed them to 1080p and Dolby 5.1 and the resolution was better and the Dolby signal was being decoded on my surround system. Those settings will now stay like that all day, no matter what program I tune to, regardless of how it is being broadcasted. I also understand that just because my preferences are set that way, I'm not always watching/hearing to those preferences and that's to be expected. But I guarantee that during the overnight hours, those preference will revert back to 720p and stereo vs 1080p and Dolby 5.1 just as they have done since I had this system installed in the last couple of weeks. Greatly appreciate everyone's time and assistance.
