Recorded programs pause and jump when replayed

All recorded shows on my dvr all of a sudden now pause and jump sporadically.  Additionally, if I rewind or pause live TV, it does the same thing...pauses, jumps, garbled audio, etc.  Please help with a solution. I don''t want to trade in my Contour DVR because I would lose all my recorded shows.

    Have you already tried rebooting your cable box by briefly unplugging/re-plugging the power from it?

    My reboot did not work. Problem seems to occur on cbs at certain times but not others.
