When it happens, I simply change the channel, and change it back, and get the sound. At that point however, I occasionally lose sound when it goes back to the national feed, and have to do the same thing. Very frustrating. Does not happen on my Contour DVR, only on my second box.
How are you wired for sound? For example, model of cable box, type of cable, model of AVR, model of soundbar, type of second cable, etc.
However, it sounds like a software setting. HDMI-CEC (Anynet+), for example, could be trying to negotiate the audio format from a connected device but failing.
Try different sound settings on your TV or sound system. For example, if you're using Dolby, try switching it to PCM when the audio cuts out.
Also, what kind of box is the "second box"? Is it a smaller host box for the larger Contour DVR or is it a separate box like a HD box? Or is it a mini box? There should be a model number on the back of it, or you can describe it in general.
Bruce Do you happen to know of a page that shows the different Cox cable boxes? I seem to remember there being one, but since the support redesign, I can't find it. You seem to know a lot about cable TV so I thought I would ask. Google only turned up this which isn't very good IMO. Know of anything else?
You're right about the redesign because it completely screwed up my bookmarks.
I use the following link. The redesigned page now asks for a Zip, so you may not get a complete list. Meaning, if LL lives in another market, we might not see his/her specific STB.
