For each of the past three Thursdays, my call history shows there was an outgoing call made at 1:23am to the same unfamiliar number, for the same length of time. Problem is.......I never made the calls. What's happening?
I assume the number means nothing to you? If so, could you post what number it is? If you don't feel comfortable doing that, put the number into google and see what comes up. My guess is the security system. Did they happen to swap you out for a inside modem recently?
I haven't had any luck when I've looked up the number (855-294-2278). These mystery calls have now been made each Thursday since July 19th. I've called the medical alert company, but it's not their equipment making the calls. The first time I called Cox, I was told that it must be the medical alert system making the calls. The second time, the guy hadn't heard of this happening, but he was pretty convinced resetting the modem would resolve the problem..........which it didn't. There's no new equipment, no new modem, and no changes have been made to the cox account. I'm sure it's probably no big deal, and there's probably a perfectly good explanation as to why it's happening. I'm pretty sure the home alarm is totally disconnected, but am planning to call the alarm company that monitored the system for the previous homeowner. It's just all so weird.............
If you can open up the alarm box there should be a jack similar to a regular phone jack. try unplugging it and make sure your phone still works. This jack is called an RJ-31 and dial tone goes into it, through the alarm system, then to the house phone wiring. Another thing you could do is make sure the alarm system has no power to the control box, again verify your phones still work.
I successfully unplugged the jack in the alarm box today, and made sure the phone was still working (it was). We'll see what happens tomorrow at 1:23am. This whole thing is probably not really worth worrying about. It's just weird, and until I figure out what's going on, it's safe to say it will continue to bug me. Thanks for your help.
