10 fast beeps when picking up receiver

I recently switched from POTS to Cox phone modem service. When I pick up the receiver on any phone in my home I get 10 fast dial tone beeps then a steady dial tone allowing me to make calls. I've been having intermittent problems with my phone service where the line goes dead mid-conservation. What do the beeps mean and are the 10 fast beeps an indicator of the problem, or is this just normal for this type of phone service?

  • That sounds like it could be an indicator that you have voicemail waiting to be listened to. There is a stutter dialtone when first picking up the phone when you have a new voicemail.

Thanks, Brian. That was the dial tone beeps I was getting. I don't have a need for voicemail so I didn't have it set up. Problem solved.
