General bill question + rant about privacy practices

Had to post here because there is no longer a way to email com --hmmm so do not tell me that bill questions should not be posted.

I was late paying my bill. I noticed that Cox has an area where you list the date you will pay so I took advantage of that and listed the date.  Imagine my surprise when I received an official collection letter --- not very nice. What is the point of saying I could pay late and letting me select the day.

And ---while I am ranting - last month I rec'd a text asking me if I wanted to pay my bill with my credit card ending in XXXX. I was shocked because I ALWAYS select the one time option and do not store my info. I called Cox and was very annoyed,. The rep told me Cox retains ALL credit card numbers whether you tell them to save it or not.  What is up with that? That has to be some kind of privacy violations.

I have been with cox since 1988. Had internet and cable tv. Dropped cable tv 2 years ago. Cox has a monopoly in my area on internet.

Not very happy with cox as of late.
