I have Gigablast service that is now suddenly topping out at 300mbps DL and 5mbps UL. Up until last week I had full 1000mbps speed DL and 40mbps UL. My modem is a Motorola MB8600. Its obvious that COX has changed their system in some way within the last week or so and caused this issue.
I had a COX tech come out who determined that my modem is the issue and most likely needs a firmware update but that they wont update it since its customer provided!
I contacted Motorola who told me that they do have a firmware update to my MB8600 which they have forwarded to COX to provide to their customers. They said that ALL updates should be provided by COX. They said they specifically created this firmware after COX system updates have created intermittent connectivity issues and degraded speeds to many Motorola users modems.
Motorola said they will contact COX to tell them they should be pushing this update to me. We will see what happens....
Oh, and as a cherry on top, it looks like COX will be charging me $75 for the service visit since the problem was a "customer equipment issue".
Thanks for your report. Cox forum support...are you there? Can you give us an update to this issue?
seper8tor I'm on the the ultimate tier not the gigablast so I can't test gigablast speeds. My speed tests are fine on ultimate though. Are you using an iPv4 or iPv6 address from Cox? Just curious. Anyways, I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to upgrade to gigablast or not but with the 1TB cap still in place I doubt it. I'm in Tucson Arizona FYI.

Do you need IPv6 for anything? If not, leave it off. Not only does it save you on router resources but it stops you from having to run a IPv6 firewall too.
What speedtest are you using? I have just upgraded to Giga a couple weeks ago and my DL speeds have been horrible... I get like 987mbs on the web based speed tests, but when I try to pull down files from the Usenet my speeds are all over the place, bouncing around from 90 up to 300 constantly. At that rate it is barely saving me any time compared to the old 150mb plan I had that would stay maxed out without any hiccups. I read on another forum a user had proven that Cox unlocked the speedtest sites to full speed but was throttling known ports/sites that are used to DL large amounts of data: Newsgroups,torrents,etc... Whats the point if the only time I see max speeds is when I'm just testing :-/
