I am considering buying a cox supported modem, used. The seller has told me "all devices are considered 'technically destroyed' when they are not on an active account and service provider should reinstate them accordingly"
If Cox Representative visits this site .. can you confirm that I can purchase this modem and get it to work on my Cox account? Or has anyone else on this forum purchased a used modem?
Thanks in advance
I haven't bought used modem. As long as the seller will take it back if it's not deactivated or Cox refuses to connect it for some reason. What DOCSIS is the modem? What's your speed plan?
I don't think a used modem would be any more risky than a Cox-refurbished one, but at least Cox would exchange a defective refurbished-modem.
The reason I asked what model the modem is because I suspected it was a phone modem(eMTA) which Cox won't activate for procedure reasons. Any eMTA Cox gives out is on a free lease, so after your done, they have to be returned, not sold. There have been a few exceptions to that rule, but they are rare.I assume you know this, but just explaining my question to OP.
I didn't suspect an eMTA because...as you noted...phone equipment is free issue. I only suspected a DOCSIS. I could be wrong to suspect. As long as the seller is willing to take it back if it doesn't work after a few days, a used modem could be an economical choice.
