In the past 12 days, I have moved 74 spam emails from my inbox to my spam folder. A few months ago and Many years prior to this I had zero spam emails for very long periods of time and never had any multiple spam problems whatsoever. Something is very wrong at Cox to have not resolved this problem. When I phoned Cox, I was told that many customers have been complaining about a recent increase in receiving spam. I dread having to change my cox email address to another company after having this account for many years, but if this continues, that may be my only solution. Has anyone else quit using Cox email due to this problem? (Chase)
Yes, I have seen a definite increase with Spam getting through. Not only that, but I have reported the same emails as Spam more than 10 times and they are still getting through. Cox needs better Spam filters.
And the email is not free, I pay a lot of money for my Cox Internet service.
socalgal2018, I greatly appreciate you for sharing what you have endured. What annoys me is that service before this was outstanding and I would tell others about how much I liked Cox and taught many others how to avoid spam by using BCC with multiple emails, etc. Gmail is starting to look better with each and every spam I continue to receive because of this horrible service from Cox. What I don't get is why Gmail is not preferable overall. Even when Cox had the old email platform, it never worked great. There was no way to see who or what IP had accessed your account, there was a soft limit on how many you could send, and the SMTP server would randomly give errors. Their anti-spam was mediocre at best, but at least their filters worked, which could filter spam. However with Gmail, you just don't get spam in your inbox. Gmail is on a whole different level from most providers. I would gladly give up my privacy for such good security and features, never mind I don't feel I have given up my privacy. After all, what good is privacy from big brother if the ISP sells your email to the highest bidder.
WiderMouthOpen, I am grateful to you for what you shared in your recent post. I really dread changing my email address and losing contact with those I might not be able to reach. Having used the same email address at Cox for the past 16 years indicates my hope it shows that I liked this service through Cox prior to this EXTREME problem. I'm still pondering deleting my email service with Cox as a final resort to end the spam problem for me. (Chase)
I would suggest trying Gmail out now but keep your Cox account. You can even forward all your Cox email to your Gmail account or have it load into a inbox of gmail itself. With the forward, also set up a vacation message (that still possible?) telling everyone that emails your Cox email address of your new Gmail one. That way if/when you do change to gmail, the swap will be as painless as possible.
