I have the Ultimate package and my internet speeds are very slow ~20-22 upload and download. Purchased a new modem which is listed on the Cox Certified Cable Modems page and had Cox cable run new cable from the pole to my house with very little change in my speeds when tested. All testing is performed by directly connecting to the router and not using the wifi. Other test I changed out the cat6 ethernet cable and retested with same results. Listed below are my specs on my setup. Just not sure if my connection issue goes beyond the pole or on my end. Any input would help.
1. Netgear - Model C6300 / DOCSIS 3.0 / 16x4 channel
2. Lenovo Thinkpad / win10 64 bit / 16 GB memory
3. New cable from pole to my house
What is your connection rate between PC and router/gateway? Also, by router do you mean the C6300? If not, what model router do you have?
Also, are all devices connected to the router as slow? Is it always slow?
Last, can you show your signal levels? Should be available at 192.168.0.1 or .1.1, or what ever your default gateway IP is. Should look something like this, but the example below is not optimal levels.

The only difference from your screenshot is Correctables / Uncorrectable column show no data with the exception of Downstream Bonded Channels Correctables with channel 4 @7
Well there we go. Looks like you have a double NAT issue. 192.168.0.1 is the default IP for the C6300, but what do you have before the C6300 at 192.168.1.1? Looks like there is latency between THAT router and the C6300, probably caused by the double NAT(two routers).
If you had a CM500 before, that is a stand alone modem, so you would have needed a stand alone router to go with it. When you got the C6300, it is a modem AND router combo gateway, so the router inside conflicts with the router you are connecting to it. You would need to either;
A. Disconnect the 192.168.1.1 router and connect directly to the C6300.
B. Keep using the 192.168.1.1 as your main router and set the C6300 to bridge mode.
C. Use the C6300 as your main router and set the 192.168.1.1 router to Access Point(AP) mode.
I changed my setup to use the C6300 as the modem / router and removed the other router. And my speeds are about the same for the cox speed test, but the speed increased tremedously for the DSL Report test. Thank you for your time and input. Is the cox speed test sort of unreliable?
Speed is getting better, but no where near 300Mbps. I think we are close, but missing a piece of the puzzle. Can you tell me the original problem you had with the CM500?
Also, what model router were you using before disconnecting it?
Next, what other devices do you have on your network besides laptops/phones/PC?
Last, if we can get you up to 200Mbps and you seem to cap there, there could be congestion in your area. Cox lists your gateway as being compatible, but if it was me, I would be more comfortable with a 24 tuner like the Netgear CM600. We aren't at that point yet, but just mentioning it for later.
The CM500 issue was the speed at ~25mbps download. After removing the Linksys e1500 router and direct connecting to C6300 modem/router my connection speeds increased tremendously. The Cox contractor that was replacing the cable was unsure of the CM500 speeds and suggested at least a 24 channel modem. After reviewing the cox certified cable modem list, I found the only modem listed at ultimate speed at the local best buy. In the beginning my speed was very slow until they replaced the cable from the pole to my house and then through trial and error and your input I'm at the speed of 340mbps now. WOOT! WOOT! I think the cable was original from the 80s due to all the overgrowth of trees/bushes, so they buried the new cable from pole to my house.
Yea, that would do it. Not only was it double NAT, but the E1500 only had 10/100Mbps ports. That's why it was hurting your upload and download. Plus it's very old, so the wifi isn't very good at all.
Glad your speed is good. Now just watch for consistency. Think of it like a highway. The more lanes, the more cars can be on the highway before there is traffic. If you have 16 "lanes" on your modem, you might see a problem as those lanes fill up. Might not. Depends on how many people are in your area and what they use the internet for. If you do, I would suggest a upgrade to a modem like the Netgear CM600 and a new stand alone router. Work horse is currently Asus RT-AC68U. Can even get one for free if you have Tmobile.
