WATCH ESPN

I am getting conflicting information by reading through the forums so I will ask directly. On the ESPN website under watchespn are COX customers only allowed to watch ESPN3 even if they pay for cable and internet through cox and have ESPN on the cable package?

When I go to ESPN and go to WATCHESPN it has a lock on everything except for ESPN3 after I log into my COX account.

  • Hi Santamariandrew,

I apologize for the conflicting information! ESPN3 provides both live streams and replays of global sports events. ESPN3 used to be free to high speed internet customers even without a cable subscription to the ESPN channel. A few years ago, ESPN3 was incorporated into the WatchESPN platform and most content was locked down.

Today, the content available to consumers without a cable subscription to ESPN is very limited. To watch any of the online content from the ESPN channels, users must subscribe to the particular channel and log in with the username and password associated with their cable TV provider. For example, to stream content from the SEC Network, you must also subscribe to the SEC Network channel.

Does this help to clarify things? Please let us know if you have any other questions.
  • I apologize my question is: I have cox cable, internet, and phone. on my cable I get ESPN through the cable package. when I go to watch espn the only thing it lets me watch is ESPN3.

Should I be able to also watch ESPN (i.e. sportcenter) as well?

When I go to watchESPN the only thing that is unlocked for viewing is ESPN3

In summary I do not want to watch ESPN3, I want to watch ESPN should I be able to do this online?

Do you have problems with any other websites or apps? Are you able to sign into our home page with your user name and password?

  • specifically do I have to have an additional subscription to be able to watch the different ESPN videos using WATCHESPN. It states that all I have to have is an eligible service provider, which COX is listed in the drop down menu, and I will be able to watch ESPN, ESPN2...etc however, when click on a video, it pops up to select provider. I select COX. It then redirects me to log in to my COX account. Once I log into my COX account the ESPN3 videos ONLY are unlocked for viewing. The ESPN, ESPN2 etc... videos are still locked.

  • I have a guy sitting right next to me that has VERIZON FIOS. He clicks on a video. selects VERIZON FIOS, logs in and is able to watch whatever he wants. I have cable through COX. I get ESPN as a channel from my regular cable. I don't have any additional sports packages. I am just trying to watch the SUNDAY COUNTDOWN on ESPN on a computer.

  • Hi Santamariandrew,

If you only subscribe to the Cox TV Essential Tier without any other channel packages, you should be able to access ESPN, ESPN 2, and ESPN 3 online content.

It sounds like WatchESPN isn't authenticating your identity correctly. To verify your login information, enter your Cox Primary User ID and password at www.cox.com/myconnection/home.cox. Are you able to successfully sign in? If not, click on the "Forgot User ID/Password" link and follow the steps to reset your password.

Once you can sign in successfully, the same user ID and password should also give you access to the WatchESPN mobile (and online) content.

  • Thanks Becky, I just needed to know that it wasn't something additional I had to subscribe to from COX. I will figure it out. Thanks again to all that replied.

  • You're welcome! Please let us know if you have any further questions. We're happy to help!
