Another surround sound issue

I've looked around, but have not found an answer to this one.

Here is my set up:

Contour 2 box -> HDMI to TV -> optical audio to Receiver from the TV.

With this set up, i cannot get surround sound out of my receiver for the TV.

I know my TV outputs surround sound, since the smart app like Netfilx from TV to receiver output surround

I also know that from the contour box, i can go directly to the receiver with optical audio, and that also works.

So what do i need to do, to get the TV channels in surround with my current set up? Thnanks.
