Packet Loss in Southern California (Fortnite)

So I've had this issue for a couple months, and I believe it started when a technician came over for another issue and said the issue was that we had a two way coax splitter. He made it a single line and then plugged something into a different coax cable in another room. Although this did fix the issue of high ping, I now have high packet loss (5%-400%). I don't know if the issue is directly correlated to him removing the splitter, but I was wonder if I could just change it back to how it was alone.

  • Hi Cox User, sure! Change it back to the way it was and see what happens. Does the internet connectivity issue get better, worse, or stay the same? Make sure you don't disconnect a telephony modem or a cable box by mistake. Also, check each coax outlet in your home for an amplifier. An amplifier is an electronic device that increases the level of a signal. It's possible that the tech installed an amplifier that is malfunctioning or no longer needed. -Becky, Cox Support Forums Moderator

Also having this issue. Good download and upload speeds, but terrible packet loss when playing Fortnite. Ping will spike to high 100's with 30-40% loss. Located in Laguna Niguel, CA.

Zcharlie, Your timeouts are happening after you leave the Cox Network. Have you thought about reaching out to the game company? Could this be a demand issue with the game servers? Chris C
