Successful Email transition to Yahoo: using Thunderbird on Windows
After spending a good deal of time and effort trying to make Thunderbird get along with Yahoo, I finally figured it out. If you are reading this, you have probably already called Cox only to find out that they have washed their hands of the whole email thing and will only refer you to a phone number for Yahoo. And of course Yahoo is not set up to handle this, so you will wait in the phone queue for half of forever only to find out that they don't know how to set it up either. So in the hope that my experience may help some other poor slob, I present the below instructions, and I hope it helps. I am using the Thunderbird program to access emails on a Windows computer, however I suspect the settings will be the same for anyone using Thunderbird. First, to transfer the emails to Yahoo and establish a webmail account, follow the directions provided by Cox as regurgitated here: "Visit mail.yahoo.com/login and enter your complete cox.net email address, including the Cox.net suffix, as your username. Then enter your current Cox password, and accept the Yahoo Mail Terms of Service. Upon signing in, you’ll set up a new password for your new Yahoo account." Now log out of the Yahoo webmail and open Thunderbird. I have my email accounts and corresponding folders located in a column on the left of the page. Yours may be set up differently, but mine is the default and I will base detailed instructions on that. Go to the left column and click on the line that shows your complete cox email address. If you have multiple addresses, you will need to perform the following instructions for each of them. Now look to the top right of the new page and click on "account settings". At the bottom of the settings page is the line "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", and at the far right of that line is a box that says "Edit SMTP server"; click on it. A pop-up window will open, adjust the settings as shown below: Description: COX Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User Name: your user name, duh click OK Now go back to the left hand column and click on "Server Settings". On this page the settings will be as follows: Server Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Now close Thunderbird and reopen it. You will now be asked for a password for each of your email addresses. Use the new password that you used to set up the Yahoo webmail. Congratulations you have mail! If you want to use POP instead of IMAP I suggest you first set it up with IMAP and then go back and change the setting after you know it is working.3KViews3likes38Comments- 15Views0likes1Comment
Using Yahoo email in Mac OS mail app
I have created my Yahoo account in my Mac OS mail, but I can't seem to bring it online-attempts to change it from offline to online are futile. Anyone with a Mac able to help? I tried Yahoo chat, the AI bot is useless and if I want help from Yahoo I have to pay. I can't stand Yahoo in the browser. I can't see the text very well b/c my eyes are old now. The ads are annoying and I will drop Cox before I pay for Yahoo premium. We were looking for a reason to switch to the new Verizon 5g box. Might be now. Thank you in advance.Solved12KViews7likes109CommentsYahoo says, "Sorry, we don't recognize this email."
I just went to the mail.yahoo.com address that's been given and typed in my 5 letter email prefix and then Cox.net like I've was told to do by the instructions. It returned a message that, "Sorry, we don't recognize this email." What do I do now?82Views0likes1CommentPicture time out
I would’ve replied to the correct thread (https://forums.cox.com/discussions/tv/picture-time-out/37058), but apparently they don’t want anymore discussion about this. So, I’m starting a new thread. I understand SDV, I understand saving the planet by conserving energy and I also understand lower overhead in the name of bigger profit. The last piece is the true root of the problem. It shouldn’t matter why I want a single channel on for more than 6 hours. I pay my bill every month, which SHOULD give me a full month on a single channel if that’s what I desire.10Views0likes0Comments- 30Views0likes3Comments
“Just lie to customers, what can they do lolol?!”- Cox Communications
Contacted customer service 11/2023 about my promo ending 02/09/2024, plus we were moving so needed to transfer service as well. I asked how much of an increase I was looking at once the promo expired and if it was outrageous, I’d need to cancel service. I was told the increase was not much more as I was “eligible for a promo rate”…I would pay $120.25, I asked about my security system and was told it will all remain the same and my bill will be $120.25. My bill went up to $237.61 in March of this year. I’ve called, I’ve chatted etc etc and NO ONE will honor their agreement. I also was told my installation would be free, I paid $100 instead and another charge for extra equipment. I’m attaching the transcript as evidence since literally NO ONE at Cox will acknowledge the blatant lies and misinformation. How they get away with this is insane!40Views0likes4Comments
